As our students are preparing to launch successful careers and professional relationships in this new career, they offer their acquired skills in our Therapeutic Massage Clinic. The purpose of this clinic is to provide the students an opportunity to implement their skills in a professional setting. As we are developing students into well-trained therapists, please be advised that this is a learning environment. Your massage will be given by a student as part of their internship program and may be supervised in-part by a Licensed Instructor.
*Please note that the student clinic only accepts children aged 12 through 17 and then ONLY when a guardian is present in the room during the massage.
We operate both student and professional clinics that are open to the public six (6) days a week. All massage therapists are booked by appointment only.

Therapeutic massage is a comprehensive form of wellness. There are many benefits including pain relief, stress management, improve sleep, improve concentration, assist in releasing muscular tension and pain, and reduce anxiety. Massage also relieves our bodies from toxins that we eat, drink or breathe that may not be healthy for us; therefore, we ask our clients to drink plenty of water before and after the massage to flush those toxins from the body.
First, we ask that you arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to fill out intake and consent forms before your massage. Your student therapist will review your forms with you to ensure the safety of your massage, as well as answer any questions you may have regarding your massage session. Please discuss your health history information to your assigned student! This information is necessary and may have an impact on your massage. A licensed MT instructor is in the clinic at all times.
Yes, that is why it is very important that you fill out the intake form and communicate with your student therapist regarding your general health. Make sure you inform the therapist of any medications you are taking and if you are having any health problems at that time. If you are under a doctor’s care, we will need a written recommendation from your doctor.
Since we need access to your body tissue in order to perform the massage, you will be asked to disrobe down to your underpants (or whatever is most comfortable). You will be completely draped while receiving your massage with the exception of the area being massaged. Draping is required per New Mexico Law. The student therapist will leave the area to wash his/her hands while you prepare for your massage. Please make yourself comfortable on the table and cover yourself with the clean sheet & blanket provided. Once the student returns they will ask permission to enter into the room.
Just make yourself comfortable and feel free to ask any question regarding the massage. We do encourage a quiet environment as other clients in the clinic are receiving massages. Relax, listen to the soothing music and enjoy your massage!
We promote a “full body” Massage, in which a typical one-hour session will include massaging your back, legs, feet, arms, hands, shoulders, neck, face and head. This is necessary for the student to receive the most practice they can before graduation, and to obtain a Massage License. You will never be touched on or near your genitals (male or female) or breasts (female). We do ask that our clients respect our efforts to keep the “client-therapist” relationship professional. UTMI has a zero tolerance regarding any real or implied sexual advances between clients and/or students/faculty/staff.
When an appointment is cancelled or a client fails to show-up for an appointment, a student loses their assigned clinic hour. While we certainly understand that "life happens," we do ask that you cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Anything less than a 24 hour notice will require us to obtain payment in advance for any future bookings.
