Larry Henderson, Director


As our School Director, Larry is responsible for the daily operation of UTMI. He has 17 years of Spa and School Management experience and had previously partnered with UTMI as their compliance and process consultant.  In January 2019, he joined our team officially as School Director. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that spans taking school start-ups throughout the full processes of accreditation and maintaining compliance.  Larry is also a board member of the New Mexico Higher Education Department and serves in a capacity that moves our school forward in training highly skilled professionals in this industry.  

Matthew Cunningham, Assistant Director


Matthew brings more than 25 years of Operations Management experience. He is highly skilled in accounting software and has been instrumental in automating systems for UTMI. His systems efficiencies have provided expedient processing to ensure our students are taken care of quickly and accurately. 

Cherie Braun, LNMT, Director of Education, Instructor


Cherie brings more than 17 years of experience as a massage therapist and is licensed in 3 states. Additionally, she has 16 years of experience in Allied Health education, having performed various roles in a number of other schools in New York, Connecticut and Florida.

She has previously been an educator, a program director, and an assistant dean in Medical Assisting and Massage Therapy programs. She was also instrumental in the start-up of two massage therapy schools and played a vital role in curriculum development and student clinic design/development. Prior to relocating to Albuquerque and taking on the role of Director of Education, she was the owner/operator of a massage & wellness business located in Florida. Cherie has over 35 years of experience working in different areas of traditional and alternative healthcare. 

Cherie’s vast and varied experience as an licensed massage therapist, educator and in school administration has well-prepared her for all the aspects of her position as Director of Education, and has equipped her for working with the spectrum of students here at UTMI. NMLMT#9253

Melanie Martin, BA, LNMT/CHHP, Admissions Director, Instructor


Melanie has been a Licensed Clinical and Neuromuscular Massage Therapist since 2007 and a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner since 2012. Her first career, prior to Massage Therapy, was in corporate Human Resources Management where she gained an affinity for providing others with the tools and resources needed to succeed. She enjoys learning, teaching and contributing to the profession of Massage Therapy.  LMT#9163

Paul Mascareñaz, Financial Aid Director


Paul brings 20 years of finance experience working with the Title IV Federal Student Aid program.  He began working as a Financial Aid Officer in April 1999 and has worked his way to becoming a Director of Financial Aid throughout his tenure while working in public and private institutions of higher education.  

Raquel Montaño, LMT, Clinic Manager


Raquel graduated from our Therapeutic Massage program in 2014 and began working for UTMI in 2015 and is now our Clinic Manager. She is also one of our Instructors and brings solid experience and professional skills to our UTMI team. She enjoys cooking and being a mom to her 5 children. LMT#8410, RMTI S-0608

Barbara Sanchez, LMMT, RMTI, Clinic Coordinator


Barbara graduated from both our Therapeutic and Medical Massage Programs in 2014. She is also a Registered Massage Therapy Instructor and has worked for UTMI for 5 years. Barbara loves the outdoors and all things health and wellness.    LMT#8156, RMTI S-0589

Gwen is a 2016 graduate of our Therapeutic Massage program and an Albuquerque native. She has been with UTMI for 2 years and enjoys health and fitness activities as well as helping others achieve their health and relaxation goals.


Dr. Norm Dawson, DC, BS, BUS, LMT


Dr. Norm received his Doctor of Chiropractic, & BS, in Human Anatomy concurrently while attending Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas in 1991. He acquired his LMT education as well while attending school in Dallas. He really enjoys influencing the way new entrepreneurs at UTMI think about the impact they will have on their community. After he retired from Chiropractic he started a wellness consulting firm in which he is actively involved with his wife of 39 years. 

Julie Gutmann, LMT, NTS, RMTI


Julie teaches the body sciences for massage therapy such as Anatomy & Kinesiology, Physiology & Pathology, Nutrition and various bodywork modalities including Techniques of Massage, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shiatsu.  LMT#3016, RMTI S-0424

Melissa Segura, LMT



Patricia DeMarsh, LMT, NMT, CMT, RMTI


Patricia has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2005 and a Medical Massage Therapist since 2011.  She has worked at Downtown Chiropractic since 2009 and has been an Instructor at UTMI since 2013. She is certified in Medical Massage, Neuromuscular Massage Therapy, and Zen Shiatsu. She teaches all modalites at UTMI.

Robert Rosales, LMT


Bobby has been a massage therapist since 2016 and currently owns a Chiropractic & Massage Clinic with his wife in Edgewood, NM. Bobby was raised in the Albuquerque area where he graduated from Manzano High School in 1991. He has his certifications in Medical Massage, basic and advanced Cupping techniques, and has experience working with both professional and amateur athletes. In addition to massage therapy, he also operates his own marketing and website development company. In his free time he enjoys photographing rodeos, as this was his first love. Bobby is a retired professional bull rider and insists that massage therapy prolonged his career. He is excited to be part of such a great program and looks forward to the opportunity of molding and teaching the next generation of massage therapists. LMT#8512

Ashley Ingram, LMMT, RMTI


Ashley Ingram is a licensed massage therapist in the state of New Mexico. She graduated at UTMI in 2010. After working at a five-star spa, she attended UTMI's Medical Massage program and became a certified Medical Massage Therapist. This allowed her to combine her love of spa work with clinical massage to help her patients with injuries and chronic issues.

For three years Ashley helped run the student clinic at UTMI. In 2017 she decided to combine her life long dream of teaching and her passion for massage therapy by becoming a Registered Massage Therapy Instructor. Today she runs her own massage practice full time, while teaching as a modality instructor at UTMI part time.
